100% Natural Talalay Latex

All Latex Is Not Created Equal

The natural latex used in all Søvn Beds is 100% natural Talalay latex foam provided by Vita Talalay® and certified by Oekotex 100. This certification verifies that our latex foam conforms to the strictest European standard for harmful substances and chemicals in mattresses.

Our Manufacturing Process

Latex is a great material for mattresses. The sap is extracted with care and expertise from the Rubber Tree (Hevea Brasiliensis). The latex base is essentially filled with air, put in a case and expanded through a vacuum before being flash frozen, which enables the open cells to retain their shape. Then, the mattress is cooked or “vulcanised” at 115°C. Finally, the mattresses are washed, dried and then tested for quality control.

A latex mattress is definitely the healthiest choice due to its natural properties, as opposed to many other non-latex beddings contain petroleum based foams, which release toxic chemicals as they age. Non-latex mattresses also add an additional chemical to increase fire resistance whereas latex is naturally fire resistant. These chemicals are associated with cancer, immunotoxicity, and reproductive toxicity.

Natural Latex Foam vs Synthetic Foam (polyurethane & memory foam):

Natural latex is more elastic, more dense, and more durable than any polyurethane foam. It minimizes contact pressure and remains resistant to wear over time.

Natural latex foam provides:

  • Exceptional support
  • Even cushioning
  • Resilience – regains its shape immediately.
  • Extremely Durable - lasts 3-4 times longer than synthetic foams.
  • Moisture-resistance - ventilating structure creates a cool, dry environment.
  • Anti-allergenic properties - naturally resistant to dust mites, hypoallergenic, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal.

Synthetic Foam has several drawbacks including:

  • A fragile structure that breaks down quickly, forming sags and body impressions.
  • It traps moisture, making for hotter sleeping temperatures and a favorable climate for dust mites, molds, and mildew.
  • Manufactured from petroleum by-products and contain a myriad of chemicals including VOCs, formaldehyde, acetaldehyde and hexanal.
